From announce at list.thedeej.org Wed Dec 5 16:03:17 2007 From: announce at list.thedeej.org (thedeej.org announcement list) Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2007 13:03:17 -0800 (PST) Subject: [The Deej] the OXYMORONS at QH thursday Message-ID: <180115.98401.qm@web36510.mail.mud.yahoo.com> (mailing list and listings at www.thedeej.org) LAST SHOW of the year! join the deej for one last whoohaah at the quarry house with the OXYMORONS! tater tots are ALMOST the same as latkes! here're the deets: OXYMORONS at Quarry House Tavern Thursday, December 6 8:30 to 11:30 pm $5 at the door The OXYMORONS are: Erica Antonelli, keyboard and vocals Doug Hartnett, vocals Paul Hyland, percussion and vocals Glenn Prickett, drums Neeta Ragoowansi, vocals David Reuben, guitar Sandy Scott, guitar and harmonica someone on bass, but who knows who that might be!? www.oxymorons.com or www.myspace.com/oxyspace Quarry House Tavern 8401 Georgia Ave. Silver Spring, MD 301-587-9406 www.myspace.com/quarryhouse UPCOMING SHOWS: well, ehm, not much to report. we will continue the KARL STRAUB touresidency at the house into 2008, with the possibility of a live recording for an album sometime in the spring. at our last KARL show, MARK NOONE of the wonderful RHODES TAVERN TROUBADORS lamented that he (and i quote) "will die if the RTTS don't play the deej.' music to our ears! we have long aspired to host the RTTs, and when we do expect loud, hot, energetic, fun -- and don't expect more than a few chairs in the place (think DANCEPARTY). also, look for an opening set by KID GOAT. as for deejing out and about, well, ehm, not so much in 2008. after more than four years at two "ideal" venues for our shows, we have had (in the words of ledzep) good times, bad times. it would appear -- for whatever reasons -- that the deej has overstayed our welcome again. so while we may host the occasional show at the QH or elsewhere, it will not be a regular thing for us anymore. unless some other "ideal" location becomes known to us. then we'll do some shows and after a while we'll piss them off too! what it comes down to is this: we do the deej as a hobby, and that's hard for a club to understand. it's a tough mix. and as much work and stress as it is to deej at our house, that is the home of the deej and the place where the most memorable, magical musical moments have happened. the deej is a special event. it's made for "collectors" of unique musical events. it is not, as it turns out, that special on the retail level. deejing, to be honest, is a difficult, time-consuming and sometimes expensive hobby. we often ask ourselves why we still deej, but the answers to that question come from artists who tell us the deej is their favorite place to play, or from members of deej nation who rave about having seen one the best shows ever in our basement, or from within ourselves when we revel at bringing all our friends together to support and enjoy great artists in an intimate place. that vibe simply doesn't translate outside of our house very easily. and maybe it shouldn't. the deej: is dead -- long live the deej....
